Judgment Day – Day of the Lord
The “Day of the Lord” is the same event as “Judgment Day”. This event is reported in Revelation 16. It starts like this: “Then I heard a mighty voice from the Temple say to the seven angels, “Go your ways and pour out on the earth the seven bowls containing God’s wrath.” The end happens when the 7th Angel pours his bowls on the earth, Verse 17: “Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. And a mighty shout came from the throne in the Temple, saying, “It is finished!” Then the thunder crashed and rolled, and lightning flashed. And a great earthquake struck—the worst since people were placed on the earth.”
This is the same event that all the prophets spoke about when they refer to the ‘day of the Lord’ event – the end of the world. The wrath of God only affects lost sinners. Saved Christians will not experience this event:
Isaiah 13:6 Scream in terror, for the day of the Lord has arrived— the time for the Almighty to destroy.
Isaiah 13:9 For see, the day of the Lord is coming— the terrible day of his fury and fierce anger. The land will be made desolate, and all the sinners destroyed with it.
Isaiah 34:8 For it is the day of the Lord’s revenge, the year when Edom will be paid back for all it did to Israel.
Jeremiah 46:10 For this is the day of the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, a day of vengeance on his enemies. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, yes, until it is drunk with your blood! The Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will receive a sacrifice today in the north country beside the Euphrates River.
Lamentations 2:22 “You have invited terrors from all around, as though you were calling them to a day of feasting. In the day of the Lord’s anger, no one has escaped or survived. The enemy has killed all the children whom I carried and raised.”
Ezekiel 7:19 “They will throw their money in the streets, tossing it out like worthless trash. Their silver and gold won’t save them on that day of the Lord’s anger. It will neither satisfy nor feed them, for their greed can only trip them up.
Ezekiel 13:5 They have done nothing to repair the breaks in the walls around the nation. They have not helped it to stand firm in battle on the day of the Lord.
Ezekiel 30:3 for the terrible day is almost here— the day of the Lord! It is a day of clouds and gloom, a day of despair for the nations.
Joel 1:15 The day of the Lord is near, the day when destruction comes from the Almighty. How terrible that day will be!
Joel 2:1 [ Locusts Invade like an Army ] Sound the trumpet in Jerusalem! Raise the alarm on my holy mountain! Let everyone tremble in fear because the day of the Lord is upon us.
Joel 2:11 The Lord is at the head of the column. He leads them with a shout. This is his mighty army, and they follow his orders. The day of the Lord is an awesome, terrible thing. Who can possibly survive?
Joel 2:31 The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives.
Joel 3:14 Thousands upon thousands are waiting in the valley of decision. There the day of the Lord will soon arrive.
Amos 5:18 [ Warning of Coming Judgment ] What sorrow awaits you who say, “If only the day of the Lord were here!” You have no idea what you are wishing for. That day will bring darkness, not light.
Amos 5:20 Yes, the day of the Lord will be dark and hopeless, without a ray of joy or hope.
Zephaniah 1:7 Stand in silence in the presence of the Sovereign Lord, for the awesome day of the Lord’s judgment is near. The Lord has prepared his people for a great slaughter and has chosen their executioners.
Zephaniah 1:14 “That terrible day of the Lord is near. Swiftly it comes— a day of bitter tears, a day when even strong men will cry out.
Zephaniah 1:18 Your silver and gold will not save you on that day of the Lord’s anger. For the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy. He will make a terrifying end of all the people on earth.
Zephaniah 2:2 Gather before judgment begins, before your time to repent is blown away like chaff. Act now, before the fierce fury of the Lord falls and the terrible day of the Lord’s anger begins.
Zechariah 14:1 [ The Lord Will Rule the Earth ] Watch, for the day of the Lord is coming when your possessions will be plundered right in front of you!
Malachi 4:5 “Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives.
Acts 2:20 The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the Lord arrives.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.
1 Thessalonians 5:4 But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.
2 Thessalonians 2:2 Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us.
2 Peter 3:1 [ The day of the Lord Is Coming ] This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.
