32 – Touch By The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit will testify of Jesus and when we are touched by the Holy Spirit, we will also testify of Jesus. Paul also reminded us that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from a prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, these people were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God (2 Peter 1:20-21).

What Happen When You are Touch By The Holy Spirit?

Jesus said, “The Comforter”, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in Jesus’ name, will teach us all things, and bring all things to our remembrance, all that Jesus has told us about himself (John 14:26). He also said that when he sends the Comforter – the Spirit of Truth, He will come unto us from the Father, he shall testify of Jesus (John 15:26).

The Bible showed that Jesus also was touched by the Holy Spirit when he was being baptized by John. As Jesus came up out of the water, John saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus like a dove (16.Mark 1:10). To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be zealous in the witnessing and spreading the good news about Jesus, God, and the plan of Salvation. We will look at some examples in the Bible of what happened to individuals when they are filled with the Holy Ghost.

On the day of Pentecost, all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability (Acts 2:1-3). Here the evidence of a person touched by the Holy Spirit is the ability to preach the good news about Jesus and it was spoken in languages that the audiences could understand. The Disciples not only received the ability to communicate the Gospel to others, but they were also not afraid of the ruling authorities and the power that was against them. With zeal, they went about evangelizing the communities about the Gospel of Jesus.

Another example of a person touched by the Holy Spirit is Paul who was named Saul of Tarsus. As he was approaching Damascus on a mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?” Paul replied, “Who are you, lord?” And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Paul was anointed by the Spirit of Jesus and he stayed with the believers in Damascus for a few days. And immediately he began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is indeed the Son of God!” (Acts 9).

Even in the Old Testament, there are examples of what happens when the Spirit of God touched a person. The scripture recorded that when King Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, they saw a group of prophets coming toward them. Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy. When those who knew Saul heard about it, they exclaimed, “What? Is even Saul a prophet? How did the son of Kish become a prophet?” When you are touched by the Spirit of God you will preach the good news of God even if you were not trained in the schools of the Prophets.

This experience not only happened to Saul but it happened to his soldiers. King Saul was desperately looking for David, and when the report reached Saul that David was at Naioth in Ramah, he sent troops to capture him. But when they arrived and saw Samuel leading a group of prophets who were prophesying, the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s men, and they also began to prophesy. When Saul heard what had happened, he sent other troops, but they, too, prophesied! The same thing happened a third time. Finally, Saul himself went to Naioth in Ramah, but while he was on his way, the Spirit of God came even upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy all the way to Naioth! (1 Samuel 19).

Another Old Testament example is Isaiah. Even before Jesus appears in Jerusalem, Isaiah was prophesying about Jesus. Isaiah recorded numerous prophecies about Jesus. How did it begin? It was in the year King Uzziah died that Isaiah saw the Lord in a vision: Jesus was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!” Then one of the seraphim flew to Isaiah with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched Isaiah’s lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.” Then he heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” Isaiah said, “Here I am. Send me.” And Jesus said, “Yes, go” (Acts 6). This was the beginning of Isaiah’s prophecies about Jesus – he was touched by the Holy Spirit and the next sets of actions were to preach the Gospel of Jesus.

Today, the Spirit of God is still touching lives. Jesus said he will pour out his Spirit upon all people. Our sons and daughters will prophesy. Our old men will dream dreams, and our young men will see visions. In those days he will pour out his Spirit even on servants—men and women alike (Joel 2:28-29). We have seen this promise fulfilled as we see the zeal of many young evangelists as they preach Jesus wherever they go. Pray as Isaiah did that the Holy Spirit will fall upon you so that you can be a zealous witness for Jesus.
